St. Paul’s is in Shared Ministry with Redeemer Lutheran Church in Biggar, SK. The shared ministry had its beginnings about twenty years ago when the incumbent priest’s spouse was serving as called and ordained clergy at Redeemer. They resolved to bring the two congregations (plus some Presbyterian individual worshippers whose congregation disbanded) together in ministry which led to the formation of PALS (Presbyterians, Anglicans, and Lutherans in Service). Today PALS worshipers meet together for worship on the second and fourth Sunday of the month (alternating between church buildings on a monthly basis) with an average attendance of 24. A document regarding the details of the shared ministry has been created and is available in the Diocesan office. The present PALS community is being served by Rev. Daphne Bender who is on the Saskatchewan Synod roster of the ELCIC. She is employed at halftime. St. Paul’s strengths lie in determination to maintain and grow as an Anglican presence in Biggar, SK. We are intent on always growing and strengthening our relationship with our partners in the Lutheran congregation by always worshiping together, having combined vestry/council meetings with as much transparency as possible, yet maintaining strong ties with our Diocese. Our weakness lies in the numbers of Anglican regular worshipers. We are small in numbers with the majority of those in the later years of life which limits our abilities to serve our community (for example, we can no longer cater funeral lunches). St. Paul’s members envision a continued presence in our community as part of PALS for as long as possible. Those who are active members of the congregation are faithful to God and are open to following God’s vision for us into the future.
