We are a small, friendly church in the NE section of Saskatoon, small congregations of approximately 50 people. Strengths – dedicated small group of core members, friendly. Weaknesses – our parishioners are aging and we have been unable to attract younger people and families, limited in what we can accomplish because of small, aging congregation. We may not be able to maintain our parish as our congregation ages unless we can attract younger people. St. Matthew’s had its beginnings as a mission project of St. James Anglican Church. The church was opened by Archdeacon (later Bishop) Lloyd on September 6, 1908. Home to many who have moved into the neighbourhood and from other parts of the city. Recently, we have welcomed U of S students from Nigeria. We have a Professional Music Director and a Bulletin Designer who provide the Bulletin for our Worship Services. We offer study and fellowship: Tuesday mornings Bible Study of the scripture readings as assigned for the following Sunday. Friday Afternoon Bible Study Group meets Friday afternoon of study and discussion, with DVDs. The Outreach Steering Committee meets monthly on the second Thursday afternoon. “Cozy Corner” is a time of gathering to visit, knit or crochet with the help of experienced needle workers. They provide afghans/shawls/prayer squares which are blessed and given to the sick, bereaved and local charities. Our prayer chain is very active praying for the needs in the church and in the community.

The Outreach Committee has partnered with St Paul’s United Church providing assistance to families and community groups. Our community garden has expanded over the years led by two Coordinators and a church liaison. During the Harvest Season, on Sundays produce is shared with our congregation. Donations going to CHEP. St. Matthew’s opens its doors to be a meeting space for many groups throughout the week. We have ongoing Fundraising events throughout the year: Pancake Breakfasts and Suppers, Concerts, Christmas Bazaar and Bake Sale, Yard Sale and BBQ, Bakeless Bake Sale.
