Emmanuel Anglican Parish began in July, 2013 as three parishes (St. James, St. Mark’s & St. Timothy’s) came together forming a loving, inclusive faith community, committed to nurturing a creative spiritual life. Our congregation worked to resolve challenges in amalgamation and Covid lockdowns. Blessed with solid interim ministry and through the work of the Parochial Committee, we developed our congregational profile. Our current priest — a Lutheran pastor — began in July 2022. Creative changes that happened during Covid have continued: we went paperless, removing worship books and installing monitors. We continue to offer Morning Prayer Service on Zoom, with 25-30 people weekly. Our 10:30 in-person Sunday attendance is 65-75 people. We are blessed that in 2023 our parish increased by 20 members. The Church Sanctuary and spaces are used by community-based groups, for community events and music recitals. The Refinery – Arts & Spirit Centre is used by On the Boards Theatre Company, for Emmanuel programming, and community events. We offer creative, inclusive worship services and other services such as Taizé, Ash Wednesday, Blue Christmas. Our outdoor Winter Solstice Ritual drew 60 people from the congregation and community. Music is a very important part of parish life. Our Music Director conducts a 22-person choir that sings every Sunday from September to May. The Director encourages musicians from the pews and the choir to participate by playing during services. Our Outreach Committee is involved with PWRDF events. Parish donations support Christmas hampers, collecting food items and “warm woolies”, and a monthly donation of muffins for the Ecumenical Campus Ministry. Our Prayer Team meets twice monthly, praying for members and offering a book study and confidential prayers during Communion. The Men’s Breakfast has restarted meeting regularly. Some congregational and community gatherings include The Painting Table, cribbage afternoon, and palm cross-making.
